A pass at Advanced Level at Grade C or better in Biology and a pass at Intermediate Level in either Chemistry or Physics.

During the first year of the Course, students are also required to undergo an occupational health assessment so as to ascertain that they are fit for the duties related to their proposed studies. Students who do not fulfil this requirement may be barred from progressing with their studies. Failure to disclose information about a physical or mental health problem that could affect patient safety is considered to be a serious breach of the University Suitability to Practise Regulations./p>

The course in Podiatry aims to prepare you as a future professional podiatrist by meeting the requirements of a population with regards to foot treatments, foot health promotion and foot care education. As a podiatrist, your knowledge and skills related to this branch of medicine will allow you to use your expertise in podiatry to help treat patients and alleviate them from disorders that are associated to the foot, ankle and lower extremity. The course provides the adequate knowledge required to make you a professional podiatrist, ranging from subjects such as general anatomy, podiatric dermatology, regional anatomy, renal physiology and haematology, podiatric clinical skills, nail pathologies and podiatric anaesthesia. You will be exposed to both theoretical and practical work, where you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a clinical setting. We encourage you to participate in an Erasmus+ programme for a more diverse learning outcome.

Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

This programme of study is governed by The General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Bachelor of Science (Honours) - B.Sc. (Hons) - under the auspices of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

During the course, you will:

  • Be tailored to fit current practices in the field through your evidence-based practice.
  • Be provided vocational education for a career in podiatry.
  • Learn to cope with the physical and psychological demands of the profession.
  • Become knowledgeable in podiatric science, medical sciences, behavioural/clinical studies and research design.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of applied anatomy, pathology and physiology.
  • Have hands-on experience through the clinical component, as it is an important and integral part of the course.

On successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Council for the Professions Complementary to Medicine. As a graduate in podiatry, you will be able to pursue a career in both the public and private sector. If you wish to further your studies in Podiatry, you will be able to register for any post-graduate certificate or diploma, or you can also register for a Masters degree both locally or with any other foreign university.
